A MORE DIVERSE CYCLING

First steps to change…

We believe wholeheartedly in equality of opportunity. We operate in an overwhelmingly white industry and this is something we want to change. We believe whole-heartedly in the principles of anti-racism, but until last year we had been guilty of doing nothing to actively help people of colour into the industry. In 2021 we ran our writers of colour internship for the first time, with three interns joining us for a month each.

We absolutely understand that we are not perfect, but we want to start helping to change the status quo. With that in mind we have come up with a handful of opportunities that we are offering to people of colour.

Writing feedback and pitch advice

The majority of Fausto’s work is in the field of copy and content writing – although we do also have expertise in other areas. As such, we’re in a great position to help you develop as a writer. If you send us examples of your stuff, we’ll happily read it and give you detailed feedback geared towards making you better. We will do this for free and – at the moment – we will not place any limit on the amount of work you can send us.

Additionally, we’d like to offer new writers guidance on their pitches, in an effort to help them get their work commissioned. Again, this is something we will happily do for free.

Guaranteed work experience

If you are considering a career in the cycling industry, we will guarantee you a minimum of one week’s work experience with us, regardless of your academic grades, background, or situation. This is suited to those for whom some kind of placement is essential for their course, or people still deciding if they actually want to work in cycling, marketing or journalism. All we ask is that you demonstrate an interest in cycling. Fausto operates a 100% remote team and we are totally up for you working flexible hours to suit your schedule – that being said, if you do incur any expenses during your time doing work experience with us we’ll cover them.

Paid internships – writing

For those who have already developed themselves a bit as a cycling writer and for whom work experience would not be useful, we’re creating three internships for people of colour. In 2021 we successfully ran the internship three times. You do not need to be a UK resident to apply.

You don’t have to have done work experience with us to get one of these internships, but you will need to demonstrate that you are at a suitable level as a writer to contribute meaningfully to what we do, and that you have an interest in cycling. These internships will be paid at the UK real living wage and will run throughout the year at times to suit the candidates. If you are interested in an internship send an email to Tom. It is our hope that these internships will help us to identify talent, so that when it comes time to grow the team, our former interns are at the front of the queue.

Paid internships – graphic design

In 2022 we are inviting applications from visual creatives and graphic designers of colour. Like the writing internship, interns will be paid at the UK real living wage, but you do not have to be based here in the UK to apply. To be considered, please send your portfolio (if you have one, or an example of your work if you don’t have) and a demonstration of your interest in cycling.

For all enquiries about any of the above, please email Tom.
